Jamaica
Men from Greenock made their way to the West Indies to seek their fortunes. Their families went with them:
John Rankin  and William Shand owned and managed estates in Jamaica and dsecribed themselves as "merchants". Hinton Spalding was a doctor and thus had standing in Jamaican planter society.
Glasgow
James Dunlop developed a substantial industry in the cotton trade , Charles Cunningham Scott developed shipbuilding on the Clyde and Charles Tennant (not shown in the Family Tree below) worked with James Dunlop to develop the bleaching process which he went on to devlop a chemical works that grew to become the largest in Europe.
India
Alexander Johnstone Dunlop became a senior minister to the ruler of Hyderabad (with an area similar to the United Kingdom). His son and grandson both worked in the administration of the railway started during his tenure.



The World Wars
Bruce Alexander Johnstone Dunlop was engaged in the Battle of Passchendaele during the Great War. Alastair Dunlop was engaged in the Battle of the Admin Box, Crossing the Irrawaddy and  Battle for Mandalay.
